Getting To Know Ed Carey

For the first time in years, voters in Myrtle Beach have an opportunity to elect an individual to the all-important position of mayor who’s extensive education, experience & reputation will permit him to hit the ground running.

Ed Carey is the right candidate and the right time to tackle the almost overwhelming issues facing our beautiful city in a conservative, efficient and effective manner.  Although he officially moved to Myrtle Beach in 2006, his roots here go back more than 35 years … he father purchasing property in Horry County and then ultimately retiring to the Grand Strand Area.

Carey cut his teeth in the building and construction industry in Northern Virginia, the fastest growing suburb of Washington, DC - the ideal place and time to build a solid reputation in the sort of rapid growth we’re undergoing here in Myrtle Beach and along the Strand.

He boasts 25+ years in leadership roles on over $1 billion in public/private development & construction projects and led project teams with over 1,100 in manpower from estimators, schedulers, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors & government officials. Locally, Ed led the owners’ project management team right here at The Market Common.

Since 2006, he’s served as a Board member of The Children’s Recovery Center of Horry & Georgetown Counties and over the past 30 years, numerous professional organization boards and HOA/POA boards.

Carey, 59, is the father of two successful daughters.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree (Building Construction) from Virginia Tech, College of Architecture & Urban Studies. He is a Certified Professional Constructor, has served as board member and Chapter President of the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) and also served on the Construction Certification Commission of the AIC.
